Celebrate Hedgehog Awareness Week with us!

  Me and Regis the Hedgehog
From the 5th 'til the 11th of May it will be National Hedgehog Awareness Week (HAW) which is run annually by the British Hedgehog Preservation Society (BHPS) who help to raise awareness of their sharp population decline. As it’s now officially springtime, that means that hedgehogs are finally out of hibernation and so it’s more likely that they will be roaming in back gardens across the country, and there will also be new little hoglets being born too! During this time it is absolutely essential that hedgehogs are protected from the multitude of dangers that face them- be it strimmers, bonfires, loss of habitat, cars, or natural predators.
Through our campaigns, advocacy and educational projects we work to raise awareness of the practical steps we can take to help reverse the decline of hedgehogs in the wild, improve their welfare and safeguard the future of this much-loved animal. We also fund research that provides important new insights into the conservation and welfare of hedgehogs.”- BHPS
During HAW, competitions are run on their X, Facebook, and Instagram channels, where they give away hedgehog-themed prizes from a different company each day.
A couple of months ago, the BHPS approached us to ask if we would like to collaborate with them by donating some of our Hedgehog designs for one day of their competitions during HAW, and of course I said yes!
I actually had a bit of experience caring for a hedgehog that was found by the Corsham Area Hedgehog Rescue group a few years back. You can read more about this in another blog post that I wrote about the whole ordeal and how I nursed her back to health with the help of my nephew. This experience is actually what inspired me to create my Hedgehog collection, so being contacted by the BHPS was very nice!
So, on the day of the Hannah Turner Competition, we have donated two sets of Hedgehog Salt and Pepper Shakers and Planters. We’ve also gone a step further and decided to donate 10% of all our Hedgehog collection’s sales profits to BHPS for this week.

So, give the British Hedgehog Preservation Society a follow on social media to keep up to date with their competitions from the 5th-11th of May if you're interested.
Read their handy article here on practical steps you can take to do your bit in protecting vulnerable hedgehogs during spring, and also how you can donate.
