The name comes from a time during Queen Victoria's reign in the UK when the rich used to box up gifts to give to the poor. Boxing Day was traditionally a day off for servants - a day when they received a special Christmas box from their masters.
The servants would also go home on Boxing Day to give Christmas boxes to their families.

Yes, all of our designs are neatly boxed in 100% recycled cardboard so will arrive ready to be wrapped if giving as a gift.
Some designs are first wrapped in recyclable decorative tissue paper, and others in recyclable corrugated cardboard to keep them protected inside their gift boxes.
The smaller items like salt and pepper shakers and egg cups are packed in a gift box with an illustrative sticker, and the boxes for the tableware designs have the Hannah Turner logo on them.
Yes, we pack each individual gift boxed item or items in a larger box, then pad this on all sides with eco loosefill (wheat starch puffs) on all sides so that it is protected from rough handling. We occasionally get a few breakages, but thankfully they are very rare and often due to bad handling by couriers.
Here at Hannah Turner we only use plastic free packaging to send your purchase. Our loose-fill is made from wheat puff so can go into your household compost, and our outer boxes are all fully recyclable or compostable. Why not use them if you are doing no dig gardening - worms love cardboard! Our tape is also paper.
