Autumn at Hannah Turner HQ
Things are getting prepped here for the busy Christmas season, because once Halloween is over, that's it: those jingles start, and the countdown really begins for us! I'm somehow managing to finalise 3 new designs on top of the usual business and life upkeep; I hope you are all managing well? Anyway, here's a bit of what I've been getting up to this October...
A new Flying Trio on the horizon...
I have been very busy in the studio making a new set of flying birds for the wall to add to the collection. This time it's seagulls! A bird we see everywhere, whether it is following tractors inland, nesting on city roofs, or scavenging chips on beaches. I have now had a renewed interest in them since modelling them, watching the noisy, very large but speckled brown chicks harassing their parents, studying their graceful flight above me on holiday, seeing them following each other in car parks, always entertaining and now a little bit fascinating too as I am preparing to work on the artwork for decorating them. I have already modelled them and made the moulds of them, 2 sets for each size of bird, and they are drying (in my greenhouse whilst it was still warm!). Almost ready for casting.
A new Bee Collection...
I have also been working on the Bee tableware collection, doing the artwork and 2 new jug shapes, for next spring. These will be made for me in Sri Lanka, after testing the appetite for the design on a limited edition mug (which sold out very quickly 🙂). So, something else new for next year. I realised it was pre-COVID when I last did a new tableware collection, so long overdue. I have been focused on more sculptural designs since then but felt we needed to refresh things a bit!
New Fish designs!
I have also modelled 3 new wall fish shapes, and I am at the glazing stage. Doing new patterns and having a bit of fun with the colours has been great. I hope you will all really like these new additions.
A day in London at the Sanderson headquarters
It's important to me to take a break from business admin and creating to absorb other people's inspiring creations! So, I went to an event hosted by Sophie Robinson (an amazing interior designer) last week at the Sanderson headquarters. Her bold use of colour was an inspiration as she talked us through the evolution of her wallpaper and fabric designs that she did with the Sanderson group. I also got to have a quick look through their archive; what an amazing place!
A much-needed workshop clear-out and an in-person workshop sale!
My workshop has also had a big tidy-up, so we now have a much clearer space for this busy period. Some pictures will follow, as the state of it was quite bad, and I do love a before-and-after shot!! Now that everything's looking nice, on the 14th and 15th of November I'm going to be having an in-person warehouse sale here in Wiltshire for those who fancy visiting my studio and picking up some discounted designs before Christmas! There will definitely be refreshments... maybe some mulled wine? Keep your eyes peeled for more info on that soon.
Now... back to my fish....
