New Black Clay Designs by Hannah Turner

As artists we all need to find things that reignite our passion for what we do, and sometimes that joy can be found in simplicity. So it was for Hannah when she started looking at other clay colours to use in her designs, and playing around with sample shapes and glazes. She settled on black clay pottery for her new project!

Intrigued by exploring a new aesthetic, she started with creating patterns with the glazes and then realised she was making designs that would be really difficult to put into production, so she went back to basics and just played with the colour and form. Initially the project was using black ceramics and creating lamp bases, but these have added complications of wiring, new packaging and also lamp shades! Not to be defeated, these are on their way, but she thought it would be easier and fun to kick-start the collection with a few black clay mugs. We all have a favourite mug we reach for when we make a brew, and ironically Hannah often picked designs by others, as much as choosing her own to drink from, and when these samples arrived, they became the go-to mug, and confidence in the project grew.
