It's Hedgehog Awareness Week from the 3rd to the 9th of May...
If you love hedgehogs even half as much as I do, you'll be interested in Hedgehog Awareness Week! This campaign is run annually by the British Hedgehog Preservation Society (BHPS), who help to raise awareness of their sharp population decline. We usually do a post each year to show our support, but also encourage readers to take part if they can.
This year, BHPS has created the Hedgehog Pledge to encourage us to take small actions that can help hedgehogs in the wild. These are seven practical options to inspire everyone to act with hedgehogs in mind. Read about each one here.
As it’s now officially springtime, hedgehogs are finally out of hibernation, so it’s more likely that they will be roaming in back gardens across the country, and there will also be new little hoglets being born! During this time, hedgehogs must be protected from the dangers that face them, be it strimmers, bonfires, loss of habitat, cars, or natural predators.
“Through our campaigns, advocacy and educational projects, we work to raise awareness of the practical steps we can take to help reverse the decline of hedgehogs in the wild, improve their welfare and safeguard the future of this much-loved animal. We also fund research that provides important new insights into the conservation and welfare of hedgehogs.”- BHPS
This is something close to my heart as I've personally looked after a few hedgehogs in need myself! You can read more about this in another blog post that I wrote about the whole ordeal. This experience is actually what inspired me to create my Hedgehog collection, so working with BHPS feels fitting for our business.
