Hello, dear readers. This week I wanted to write something different; I've been very busy both in and outside of running the business, so I thought it would be nice to give you a peek into my life!

Indulging my gardening and antiques obsession

Last week, I had a lovely time despite the heat. I went to the new RHS Badminton show with Dave. It was an amazing show; I loved the pocket plantings and the big Tom Stuart-Smith garden was amazing to walk through. It was scorchio though, so we didn't stay too long.

I also recently went to the local Shepton Mallet antiques and vintage fair, which is always a favourite of mine. I managed to pick up an iconic Guinness toucan lamp base, and we haggled him down to a good price as it had a repair. I now need to make a lampshade to go with it. I am very happy with my toucan, as years ago I saw a set of Guinness toucans for the wall, but didn't buy them because they were very expensive, and always regretted it, which then inspired me to make my own version - I guess I should be glad, as it prompted me to create a bestseller!

I also found some vintage Hannah Turner designs!

Collecting for my French AirbBnB

I found an old oil painting of Brunel's SS Great Britain to go with my small collection of nautical-themed paintings in my French Airbnb; a shame to take it abroad, really! I picked up a few other small things: a yellow French jug, a plate for £1 and a tiny French rabbit terrine. All in all, a good haul.

Creative stuff in the workshop

This week in the workshop I have been decorating Owl and Swift trios and working on the surface design of my new vegetable spoons. These were supposed to be a late summer launch, but sadly things didn't quite work out that way, so I think we will hold them back for next Spring/Summer instead. There will be 3 lidded pots to go with them: an onion, beetroot and radish. All are now glazed, and I am really loving the shapes.

My new Blackbird trios have flown from Sri Lanka this week, exciting! They will be with us in early September, and I am really looking forward to having them here. Definitely sign up to our newsletters to be notified of their arrival; we'll be taking pre-orders.

Podcasts on rotation

At work, Megan and I have been listening to the Radical with Amol Rajan podcast. I also laughed a lot at Bob Mortimer on Adam Frost and Caitlin Moran's new podcast called "Outsiding", well worth a listen!

The People's Emergency Briefing

Last Friday Dave and I went to a local screening of "The People's Emergency Briefing", a short 50-minute documentary on the climate crisis and what it will mean for the future, designed to show an edited version for general release, in place of the one the government pulled at the last minute. I would highly recommend you look for a screening near you; we had a very productive discussion after. I think I will write up a blog post on what I learned soon.
