A more personal blog on running a business whilst dealing with health issues.
Hello readers, it's Hannah here.
I've been wanting to talk a bit about what has been going on for me recently. I've been having quite debilitating health issues, mostly severe energy crashes, and I am noticing just how much it is impacting the business. I think it's due to my thyroid condition, which is an autoimmune disorder called Hashimoto's. Trying to go through doctors' appointments and tests is exhausting and a lot of the time fruitless. So, I've been trying to do what I can to research my symptoms and how to manage them, which turns out to be almost a full-time job in itself!
So low energy = less time at work = less time to do new designs, and less inclination to be featured on Instagram/Facebook reels due to dark shadows and lack of smiles!
However, the buzz of promoting a new product really helps lift sales, so that is also an issue. 2025 was a very difficult year for a lot of businesses anyway, and this compounds the issue. Stress then makes me more ill!
I'm not communicating this because I want pity, I just want to let you, my audience/ customers, know that if you notice a bit of a lag, and a lack of new things to talk about, this is why! It's been getting worse over the last few years, and now I feel it is finally starting to show.
I've pondered for a while about whether to communicate this; it's my 35th year in business (something I want to celebrate), but it's feeling like my toughest situation so far to navigate. For now, we might not create as much of the content that is preferred (me talking to the camera) for promoting new designs, as I just don't feel like doing it most days. We will try to show more of my processes instead, and the processes of making my designs in Sri Lanka.
In the meantime, hopefully, I will get to the root cause of my flare-ups and maybe even have some proper time away from work to remove some stress.
Please come along on this journey with me if you like! I'm sure that many readers can relate, as autoimmune conditions are surprisingly common. If you also have Hashimoto's, make contact, it's good to share experiences!
Love,
Hannah
